As it turns out, my mother-in-law had taken it upon herself to bake a cake while I was in labor. She had brought all the necessary ingredients, pans, and even a mixer, fully intending to prepare a homemade celebratory dessert. My husband found her in the kitchen, completely absorbed in frosting the cake.
